Awesome! Does it breed mosquitoes? Which plants clean the water well? Are there more eco materials that can be used for the base (such as earthen plaster, recycled materials)?

Hi, sorry I have not responded sooner.
Thank you martinz1 -well once I saw one of these pools I had to start digging one for myself. And once I made a big muddy hole there was no alternative but to finish.
Secrets0stolen – thank you for your enthusiastic response. I introduced a non- native (to UK) Elodea Crispa, a curly pond weed as an oxygenating plant. That grows quickly and takes nutrients out of the water – depriving algae. But natives would be better for the local ecology.

I couldn’t find a more eco alternative to a pond liner other than puddling clay. As I didn’t have good enough clay on site – and I did try, I decided to go for a liner.
