Do urine detecting chemicals for swimming pools exist? Where can I find them?

Next Page - Build your own in-ground pool step by step

I have heard quite a few people talk about chemicals that will make a red or purple cloud in the water when someone pees in the pool, is this correct? I have never seen the chemicals myself, only heard of them. Do they exist? Is there a website on the internet that sells them? Thanks!

These chemicals do not exist. There is so much chlorine in pools that no chemical could differentiate between the chlorine and urine.

I guess. I’ve seen lifeguards do it after the pool closes. It did turn red and purple. But where to get them, dunno…sorry!!!!!

If you are talking about a public pool then there is no need for chemicals – you can guarantee some dirty swine has peed in it. If it’s for a garden pool, then just don’t pee in it!

Phenolphthalein would turn the pool red, then there would be clear patches whenever anyone peed. However, everyone getting in the water would instantly crap themselves inside out, as Phenolphthalein is a stupidly strong laxative.

Nope. Urban myth. Don’t exist and you can’t get them. Sorry to bust your bubble.

Contrary to what anyone has told you, this is what I consider an urban legend. There is NO such thing. People say this I believe to keep people from peeing int heir private pools. My neighbor used to have a sign on their pool that said

We do not swim in your toilet, please do not pee in our pool.

they just say that to kids to make them too embarrassed to pee in the pool. but then you have kids like me that will pee just to see if its true.
