Can saltwater drained from my swimming pool be harmful to my dog?
Next Page - Build your own in-ground pool step by step
I have a saltwater purification system for my swimming pool, which I will be draining soon in order to level the pool. I have a large landscaped area where I want to direct the water, as vegetation is killed by the saltwater; however, I don’t want to kill my dog. Is the saltwater (.3%) harmful if ingested?

I would think, not positive that dogs would just get more thirsty if they drank it. Like humans

You’re dog won’t try to drink saltwater.

Please keep your dog away from the saltwater. not good for human or canine consumption. You probably have some warnings on your packaging when you added the salt to your pool. READ THE WARNING LABEL

Your plants will suffer from the 3,000ppm salt concentration required by salt system pools. Your dog? Give him a fresh water source and that is all you can do, I doubt there would be any problem.
As far as the environmental conditions draining a salt pool is not good and there are areas where you cannot drain a salt pool or empty your brine tank on your water softener. The reason for this is salt is very difficult to remove from water. For drinking water one way used to remove salt from water is reverse osmosis. Very expensive.
I bet the salesman did not tell you that when you purchased your chlorine generator!
Go ahead and drain your pool because it is but one drop but multiplied by 10,000 and it is something to consider.
You’re welcome!!

Dogs will drink from a pool that has the salt system.
Ours prefers the pool water.
Won’t hurt them. The salinity level is comparable to tears.
No where near ocean water salinity.
Will not kill plants either.
